Reflection on Skype with Tim Roda

It was very informative to get to participate in a Skype conversation with Tim and get to have a one on one with someone who is in a different state. He had great advice on how to reach your inner artist. It was nice to know that someone who has had so much experience can relate to beginner artists like the students in our class. I like how much he involves his family, including his sons, in his photography.

Caption The Image

The picture includes hundreds of thousands of products that appear to be in a grocery store. The aisles are packed full of various goods that range from vitamins to soda. Also, there are two individuals shopping present on the third aisle on the far right hand side. The people pictured appear to be a male and female, the man’s body is cut off at the right and the woman is wearing an orange cap. There is an array of colors that make the picture seem cluttered even though grocery stores are very neat. This image makes us feel confused and stressed because the aisles are very jumbled. We can identify with the people in the photo because they are the only items not for sale. Since the people are facing the opposite direction, we are unsure of their emotional state. Right before this photo was taken we feel that that the people walked into the doors of the store to browse the aisles and buy necessary items for their home. The employees of the store had stocked the shelves before their arrival. We feel that the shoppers will continue shopping, checkout and go home. The photograph is trying to depict consumers lost in a sea of advertisements and products.

Color Assignment I

Color: Mint Green

Out of all the colors I would have to say that Mint Green is my absolute favorite. This is the only color, that I am aware of, that is very soothing. Mint Green always reminds me of the beach and whenever I think of the beach it can always calm me down.

Questions:
  1. Do you like nature?
  2. What motivated you to make the foot with the tongue as the heal?
  3. Do you have a room/studio of your art? If yes, where?
  4. Did you shape those penguins by hand?
  5. Did the swan's head come off while constructing it or is it purposefully made that way

Observations
  1. The colors of the erosion from the rainstorm are really neat, it is a perminant sun beaming on the rain water.
  2. The black and gold swan looks depressed.
  3. Through your art, it seems like you enjoy the natural way of life.
  4. You take quite a few pictures of moving objects.
  5. The penguins look like they are the size of an average person's hand.

Elements of Art Project Observations:

Elizabeth Cox, Spencer Haberman and Berkley Whaley:
 - Good job taking a picture of our Visual Literacy textbook, nice use of resources!

Andrea Diaz, Wendy French and Jennifer McElroy:
 - Your VARIETY photograph strongly displays this word correctly.

Megan Kiley, Kofi and Elizabeth Lynch:
 - We thought your display of UNITY was very cute and we were wondering how you got to take a picture of a group of ducks without them scattering.

Jeslin Ritz, Morgan Rudd and Alex Medvedev
 - Your photo or the carpet represents HARMONY very well.

Michael Womack, Tara O'Connor and Michael Ciluffo
 - We liked how you all used the flags for COLOR because, unlike everyone else, you had a multiple amount of colors instead of just one solid color.
